Title says it all, taken from the post of a topic I made on Sega Boards. So, here it is as it is described on that forum:

"First, I made this post in a more intricate way to it says more than some may think, so please at least try to read some parts so you will know that I am not really generalizing anyone, bashing anyone or stuff like that. Thank you.

Well, as we all know, this Sonic fanbase is insanely divided. Sure, while it is good to have your own opinion, it is how the opinion is expressed that people are disagreeing or agreeing with, and shows who the person who is expressing his and her opinion are based on how they say things.

This fanbase has seen so much bashing, flaming, and hostile disagreement that it is not even funny. In fact, the chaos that plagues this fanbase makes us laughable by others, for our actions were expressed towards one another in terms of arrogance, hostility, immaturity and such. This may not happen to everyone, and one person who does such things may not do it all the time, but still, many have done things in this fandom that spreads unwanted chaos in this fanbase.

Now, for the following, I would like to post what I think is an explaination of all this.

Well, based on how they act about things and act towards others, there are plenty of Sonic fans who, as based on their behavior, are in some or all ways each, narcissists, purist, perfectionists, pessimists, and even maybe supremacists when it comes to Sonic stuff like the classic games and the fan shipping.

Because the classic games still get so much praise, such people use that as an excuse to bash other fans who like the newer games more and those who disagree with them, even if such people are in the minority. Such behavior can be seen all around the fanbase, especially when it comes to classic vs modern, more on the side of the classic part.

Because of this, I can assume that this fanbase is so divided and cannot agree on anything because we have too many absolutists, purists, supremacists, perfectionists and narcissists in the fanbase who are so devoted and full of things (like in classic Sonic games) that they cannot accept change or will not rest to get ecactly what they want or put down others for their opinions. Also, Sega and Sonic Team, as in how they make Sonic games do influence how such people act depending on the quality of their games, but despite the fact that they have made some bad games, they do not responsible for how the fans act based on what they believe.

Some of them even go far as flaming young people around (over and under) the age of 13 for their opinions on Sonic, and make them look dumb about Sonic because they were not alive by the time of the Genesis games when not only do young people's opinions count too, but they are most likely smarter than they would say they are. The people whom I am talking will say things like this to anyone as a way to dismiss others' opinions so that they don't have to change theirs.

They are so devoted and into worshipping the classics, or something else that it is like the world to them, and they won't call what they see from Sega good until it is made their way, regardless of what everyone else would think. It is like they are so desperate in getting their favored Sonic experience like it means so much to them all to death, all to the point mistreating other Sonic fans as Sonic "infidels".

It is like they think that Sonic games are for them only, and Sega must make the games and not for anyone else, intentionally or not. Now, not everyone who I am describing thinks the same way, for one person could be any number less than the six things (an absolutist, a purist, a perfectionist, a supremacist, a narcissist and and pessimists) as I mentioned, and be different in terms of levels of each, but no matter who is who, these kind of people, while not everyone, or at least not in every (but different) way(s), act so hostile to others and Sega, especially if Sega does not give them what they want and that if the fans disagree with them on something. These fans (if some of them are even fans to begin with) act as if their beliefs and ideals are right and should be what Sonic games should be based on, even if no one else likes it. You can be less of a purist and more of a pessimist, and not even be a surpremacist, and you could still be so stubborn and be hostile to Sega and other fans.

What I am trying to say, is that these fans I am describing, who, while may different from one another, in the same group, still, if they act like at least one of the kinds of people I described, are numerous in this fanbase to the point that their actions and behavior are preventing any kind of peace or well mannered conversation any Sonic fan may have, and create so much chaos that fans can't even agree with anything. This is not limited to classic fans, but fan shippers, fanfic makers, fans of characters and even modern fans themselves. Even if they do not see themselves to be like I described, their actions tell that they might be other wise, for even if they do not want to admit it, actions do speak louder than words, and actions can also be comphrended through text.

I believe that while it is still good for one to have an opinion, no matter who you are, these kinds of people are so numerous in the fanbase that even if Sega and Sonic Team made Shadow (the game) and Sonic 06 a great game, such kinds of people would still make the crazy chaos happen among the rest of the fanbase in any subject of the Sonic franchise, and not just the classic fans.
